111 King William Street A History 👻

William at The Lost Dice

The year is 1902, and employees at the Adelaide Australian Mutual Provident Society head office on King William Street begin to notice some strange happenings; ink pools appearing, cold chills, and sudden breezes when the windows are closed. These occurrences are mostly ignored for the next 120 years until The Lost Dice and Indoors Outdoors Story uncover the story of William, the spirit who never left his work behind.

William wanders the rooms and stairwells of 111 King William Street, still in his suit, checking in on the goings on in the building and making sure no-one is causing too much trouble (under threat of an ambulance trip to the Royal Adelaide Hospital as Jon found out). He used to work in the building, long before we were here, back when it held the Australian Mutual Provident Society and has decided the building is his to take care of. He along with a few of his unnamed friends who supervise the upper floors and the old safes, make sure that everyone at the Dice is behaving and having a good time.

Was that a ghost!

Kim was just sure he saw a ghost

William does of course like to cause mischief on occasion, shattering bottles or spooking the staff with footsteps in an empty building but we hope we’ve earned his respect and we can be friends and allies in making sure 111 King William St remains a safe and enjoyable space for all.

Kim and Liz talk about william

Liz told me that maybe William pushed me off the ladder when we were setting up The Lost Dice as I was disturbing his place (I broke my ankle), but now he quite likes me!
